North Carolina Songwriters in the Round at the Lincoln Theatre
Sunday night at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, eight artists came together for the North Carolina Songwriters in the Round, hosted by Jason Adamo. If you’ve never been to a songwriter’s round (it was our first), the format was pretty cool. Divided into two sets, with four artists in each one, the performers took turns playing their own music, beginning each song with a story that connected the audience with the inspiration and meaning.
While the songs were formed through various life experiences, one thing seemed unanimous among the songwriters: They were all happy to be playing live music again.
As the pandemic affected everyone’s opportunities for shows like this, there was a sense of homecoming in the air. A family reunion of sorts. Of course the audience came for the music, but it was the stories that made this a unique experience. Whether it was Paige King Johnson and her grandfather’s truck, Jason Adamo’s long wait to bring his daughter home from the hospital, or Mysti Mayhem talking about being taught by Bo Diddley, the stories brought each song to life.
Below, you can find our photos from the show. Make sure to check out each artist, and find where they’re playing next.

One piece of the story has fallen in to place, as we asked police whether Ian Delauder had interaction with the Cary Fire Department (first to arrive on the scene) or the Cary Police Department prior to the self-inflicted gunshot wound. Sergeant Alexander told us, “In listening to radio traffic, it is believed that Mr. Delauder suffered his gunshot wound after the arrival of the fire department. We do not know the timing of his wound in relation to the arrival of police officers. He did not have an interaction with the police.”
